Track Info
Monmouth Park describes itself as the "most beautiful racecourse in the world" and while quite a few observers might disagree with that assessment, it is nevertheless a very pretty track. It is best known as the home of the $1,000,000 Haskell Invitational, America’s richest invitational thoroughbred race.
1,600 horses are housed in 38 barns on the back stretch and the racing season runs from mid May to early September.
Monmouth Park has a dirt track and a turf course, with the former being used for most racing.
The main track is a 100-foot-wide, one-mile oval with 12 inches of aggregate sand drainage and 12 inches of crushed stone screenings topped off by a 4-inch cushion of sand and topsoil. The topsoil is a mixture of silt, clay and loam.
The turf course at Monmouth Park has been there for 45 years and is a 7/8 mile oval with a special chute for straight 5 1/2 furlong races.
Entry Cost
Grandstand admission on normal racing days is just $2 per person with under 12s allowed in free. Parking is free. A programme costs $3 and lunch is from $10 (in the Paddock Sports Bar) upward.
Opening Times
The gates open at 11:30am and for newcomers Monmouth Park recommends arriving between 11.30am and noon to allow time to explore the grounds. The first race's is scheduled for 12:50 pm. There are normally nine or ten races, which means racing finishes between 5pm and 6pm, although on Haskell Day there are 12 races.
