The Downs at Albuquerque racetrack offers live horse racing between August and October. The oval track has a one mile circumference with a 1,114 feet stretch to the finishing line after the final corner.
The Downs is one of America's main tracks for Quarter Horse racing.
The track show simulcast racing throughout the year. It also has a casino with 330 slot machines.
The Downs at Albuquerque is positioned a short drive from downtown, between Lomes Boulevard and Central Avenue.
There is a proposal to move the Downs racetrack to nearby Moriaty in 2009 in a $65 million development which would see a near doubling in the number of slots and a hotel and truck stop built for the track, which would be next to the I-40. It is estimated it would take the New Mexico state profits from the Downs operation to $12.5 million in 2009.
