Charles town has a small, six furlong dirt track with a 660 foot stretch to the finish line after the final corner. Unlike most other American racetracks, Charles Town Racetrack hosts live racing all year round. Charles Town racetrack is also host to the West Virginia Breeders Classic.
Wednesday to Saturday racing starts at 7.15pm, although on Sundays it begins earlier at 1.00pm. Not only does Charles Town Racetrack host horse racing but it also has a large gaming floor and is a great place to have dinner.
In the summer of 2008 Charles Town Racecourse are planning on opening a new hotel near to the track.
Admission to the track is free of charge to everyone, simulcast racing is displayed throughout the year.

From the Chambersburg, PA area . . . approximately 45 minutes. Take Interstate 81 South to West Virginia. Get off Exit 12 and make left onto Route 9. Follow Route 9 approximately fourteen miles to Charles Town. Take race track exit.
From the Frederick, MD area . . . approximately 25 minutes. Take Route 340 West to Charles Town. Follow signs for the track.
From the Hagerstown, MD area . . . approximately 30 minutes. Take Interstate 81 South to West Virginia. Get off Exit 12 and make left onto Route 9. Follow Route 9 approximately fourteen miles to Charles Town. Take race track exit.
